One of the long-term goals for the Johnson’s Landing Retreat Center is to continue the evolution of becoming a non-denominational spiritual community focused around the development of Body, Mind and Spirit.
In order to achieve this goal we are following in the footsteps of the famous Findhorn Foundation in Scotland with our guiding principle being that “...work is Love in Action.” Richard and Angele were so impressed with Dorothy Mclean, one of the founders of Findhorn who presented workshops at the Retreat Center for five years that they had their honeymoon in Scotland in 2006, deepening there commitment “to be the change they wish to see in the world”
We are looking for people with enthusiasm... hard-working people that see themselves in a life of service to the ongoing development of a holistic community that lives in an environmentally conscious way, setting an example to those who come for retreats or want to learn a more authentic way of living.
We ask anyone who would like to investigate this life style to take our Center Life Program which is working twenty hours per week, allowing you time to hike our beautiful valley and/or to Fry Creek. This program is available year round but we especially need help, April through November as the garden goes into full production.
After the first week if you would like to continue to work and play at the Retreat Centre you can sign up for an extended volunteer position which is a minimum of 30 hours of work plus five hours contributing to the basic chores of preparing meals and washing pots. As a volunteer, meals and accommodations are provided for and after two months, a small living allowance is provided as well. After two years you are eligible for community membership and we are still in the process of defining what that is. We have the land and would love to see it develop, just waiting for the people who want to start the process.
It would help to be in good physical condition, have a positive attitude, feel drawn to a life of service and enjoy living in the country. A connection with nature would be an asset as well as a sense of inner spirituality. We require honesty, a willingness to work on personal issues and a maturity that allows life to flow with ease.
We serve vegetarian food including eggs and milk products, grind organic flour to make delicious homemade cookies that are nutritious as well as great tasting and preserve much of what we grow. This year we are starting to raise honey bees and in the future we hope to have chickens.
We expect people NOT to use alcohol, drugs or tobacco while here.

For a bit of history ... Richard bought 17+ acres in 1998 called the Golden Eagle Retreat from Alphone Bouchard who was a visionary with several sons who liked to build... once the project was complete Alphonse found the promotion difficult, and his life had changed, so he sold it to Richard and moved on. Richard was a Industrial Education teacher and his wife Carol-Ann was into metaphysics and holistic ideas. Richard wanted to do more than buy toys with his money, he wanted to make a difference with his life energy. He retired from teaching to work full time on the Retreat. After three years Carol-Ann realized that this was not her passion in Life and she moved on. In 2002 Richard met Angele who was into creating community, so she purchased the 4 acres across the road which had a shop and good land for a garden plus 15 acres above that land that could be used for housing. We have a vision to be a mini Canadain version of Findhorn so if this appeals to you please join us in co-creating a non-profit foundation that will be sustainable. |
